Day 16 Time: 0 hrs Distance: 0 km (213.2) It's déjà vu all over again, I went out once in the night, it felt a bit cooler, in the morning it was still solid grey overhead, perhaps a shade lighter than yesterday, the wind slightly diminished and the rain less frequent. Pretty much from the get go it was decided that we would be wind bound for a 2nd full day, I did hold out some hope for better conditions later in the day, of course it never happened! I finally arose around 1:00pm, moving in slow motion, first make tea then cook up some apple pancakes with lots of maple syrup, in between nibbling of a variety of munchies I read a bit, a book on the early history of mountain climbing, lots of stories of being trapped under miserable conditions, makes our situation seem very comfortable. It's cool and damp, keeping my bottom half inside the sleeping bag; Steve is constructing a suspension system to dry his boots over the stove.

On days like this filling time is a steady job. Steve asks about cheese, I tell him it's in my boat but that I'll go get some "eventually", it takes an hour to assemble a hunk of cheddar and some crackers! Having completed that task I set to work on dinner, we have been relying mostly on meal in a bag, most days I wouldn't muster the effort for much else and in general we both find them acceptable in both taste and nutrition, the simplicity being the clincher. Today however I have plenty of time and nothing much to do so I decide to create something from scratch, first to soak a pile of dried mushrooms and bell pepper flakes, next cut up half an onion. On to the basmati rice, when done set aside, add mushrooms and onions to the frying pan (with lots of ghee), add a variety of seasoning and some tomato paste, let the liquid reduce while heating up on the other stove a pouch of Green Curry (basically green curry sauce with a bunch of bamboo shoots), add this to the frying pan, mix and pour over bowls of rice. We get stuffed! After taking care of the dishes I returned to the hut to update these notes, as I'm writing I hear the sound of "thunder" quickly approaching, then through the screen window I see a moose gallop across along the shore, it's just a dark blur in the now dim light, not thunder but rather the sound of his hooves that I hear over the ever present cacophony of wind, waves and the flapping of our shelter. In spite of a late and lengthy sleep last night I'll be in bed "early" again tonight.
